Social media activist VeryDarkMan has criticised what he described as the normalisation of vote-selling after a viral video emerged following the Ekiti State governorship election.
The online personality reacted to footage circulating on social media that allegedly showed a woman expressing excitement after receiving money in connection with her vote. The circumstances surrounding the clip have not been independently verified.
Responding to the video, VeryDarkMan questioned why some voters continue to support candidates based on short-term financial incentives while later expressing dissatisfaction over issues such as insecurity, poor public services and economic hardship.
According to him, electoral decisions influenced by immediate cash benefits may have long-term consequences for governance and public accountability.
He also argued that allegations of vote-buying should attract broader public discussion and stronger media attention, saying reports and visual evidence linked to electoral misconduct deserve closer scrutiny.
The comments come amid wider conversations around election integrity and voter behaviour in Nigeria, where concerns over inducement and electoral malpractice have repeatedly surfaced during major elections.
While no official findings were referenced in relation to the viral video, the reaction has added to ongoing debate about how electoral choices shape governance outcomes and public trust in democratic processes.
