A recent Facebook video by Primate Elijah Ayodele has stirred debate over the political prospects of Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election. In the video, Ayodele asserted that northern political leaders would ultimately determine whether Tinubu secures a second term, suggesting their stance may not favour the president. He remarked, “The Northerners will decide for Tinubu, and their decision is for him not to win. So what is he going to do?”
He cautioned that regional political dynamics could outweigh grassroots mobilisation, urging caution against relying heavily on local support groups. Referring to the growing prominence of the City Boys movement, Ayodele dismissed its potential impact, saying numerical strength alone cannot secure electoral victory.
“All this noise about Yoruba coming out with 60 boys… City boys will not make you win. Fifty-six boys will not make you win,” he stated, stressing the need for broader political alliances.
Ayodele further highlighted what he described as the dominant influence of northern stakeholders in Nigeria’s political structure. “The North will decide the future of Tinubu after God,” he added, reinforcing his view on the region’s decisive role.
His comments have added to ongoing conversations about power balance and coalition-building ahead of the next election cycle.
