The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, June 1, 2026, throwing residents into panic as heavily armed assailants stormed the community.
According to reports, the gunmen struck at about 2:25 a.m., operating for several minutes before leaving with dozens of victims.
During the assault, one resident was reportedly killed while another sustained injuries.
Sources indicated that among those kidnapped were two residents of Ayegunle Bunu, including a man and a woman who were taken away by the attackers.
However, the majority of the victims were said to be passengers travelling in a commercial bus that was intercepted by the gunmen while passing through the area.
The attackers reportedly stopped the vehicle, forced the passengers out, and whisked them away to an unknown destination.
Fear Grows Over Rising Insecurity
Residents said the attackers carried out the operation without facing any immediate resistance, raising concerns about security challenges in communities across the area.
The incident has intensified fears among locals, particularly those who travel along major roads connecting parts of Kogi State to neighbouring Kwara State.
The latest attack adds to growing concerns over recurring cases of kidnapping and violent attacks targeting travellers and rural communities across parts of the country.
