The suspect, identified as Baba Saidu Abdullahi, was apprehended following an intelligence-driven surveillance mission conducted by personnel of Naval Base Lake Chad.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by A.A. Folorunsho, the arrest was made on June 1, 2026, during an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) operation that utilized tactical drone technology.
Drone Surveillance Tracks Suspect
The Navy said operatives observed the suspect moving from an area where terrorist elements had previously been sighted.
Further monitoring reportedly revealed interactions between the suspect and armed terrorist operatives before he departed the location.
Following the surveillance, security personnel tracked his movement in real time from the Dumba axis toward the vicinity of Charlie Company, 196 Amphibious Battalion, where he was eventually arrested.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations suggested that Abdullahi regularly travelled between Dumba and Baga and allegedly maintained contact with terrorist elements operating within the region.
Alleged Logistics Support to Terrorists
Military authorities further disclosed that initial findings indicated the suspect may have been involved in providing logistical support to terrorist groups through the procurement and transportation of essential supplies.
A search conducted after his arrest reportedly led to the recovery of personal belongings and other materials considered relevant to ongoing investigations.
Following preliminary interrogation, the suspect was handed over to the appropriate military authorities for further investigation and necessary action.

The Nigerian Navy stated that the operation highlights the growing importance of intelligence gathering, surveillance systems, and technology-driven operations in combating terrorism and improving situational awareness in conflict-prone areas.
The service reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the military’s counter-insurgency campaign under Operation HADIN KAI and pledged to continue deploying available assets to disrupt terrorist activities across the North-East.
According to the Navy, sustained collaboration among security agencies remains critical to denying terrorist groups freedom of movement and restoring lasting peace in the Lake Chad region.
