A 31-year-old father from Ohio has been arrested after allegedly luring and shooting a man he suspected of raping his 11-year-old daughter.
The suspect, identified as Malik Chandler of Grove City, Ohio, is accused of shooting Diego Montoya Gonzalez outside his home on July 16 after allegedly using TikTok to lure him there.
According to investigators, Gonzalez sustained two gunshot wounds and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment before he was also arrested.
Police said they had already been investigating allegations that Chandler’s 11-year-old daughter had been sexually assaulted after explicit footage was reportedly discovered on the girl’s phone on July 15.
Authorities allege that instead of waiting for the investigation to unfold, Chandler posed as his daughter on TikTok to contact Gonzalez and persuade him to come to his residence.
Court documents state that Chandler told investigators he intended to lure Gonzalez to his home and physically restrain him until police arrived. However, Chandler claimed Gonzalez reached toward his pocket upon arriving, leading him to believe he was armed. Chandler then allegedly fired two shots.
Responding officers found Gonzalez injured and seated in a chair outside the residence. He was transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment.
After the incident, Chandler was taken into custody and interviewed by detectives, during which he discussed the alleged sexual assault involving his daughter.
Gonzalez has since been charged with rape, pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, and obstructing official business. He pleaded not guilty in Franklin County Common Pleas Court and was granted a $20,000 recognizance bond along with a $50,000 cash bond.
Court records also show Chandler has a prior criminal history. In 2021, he was charged with strangling his girlfriend until she lost consciousness, though the case was later dismissed. He was also convicted of attempted breaking and entering in 2017, a misdemeanor offense under Ohio law, which did not prohibit him from legally possessing a firearm.
