Suspected armed gunmen have attacked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, in Plateau State, killing two soldiers and a police officer during a late-night assault on Monday.
The incident was confirmed in an official statement issued by the institute, which said the security personnel were on duty around the staff quarters when the attack occurred.
According to the Head of Public Affairs at NIPSS, Dr Osime Samuel, the assault happened in the early hours of the day, triggering a security incident within the vicinity of the institute.
He explained that the victims were deployed to provide security at the staff residential area when they were ambushed by the attackers.
While details surrounding the attackers remain unclear, the institute acknowledged that the incident resulted in the loss of three security operatives.
Despite the attack, NIPSS assured the public that academic and administrative activities within the institute are continuing without disruption.
The statement further emphasized that there is currently no threat to the safety of participants, staff members, residents, or facilities within the institution.
Authorities did not disclose whether any suspects had been arrested or whether investigations into the attack had begun at the time of reporting.
The attack adds to growing concerns over security in parts of Plateau State, where armed groups have previously targeted communities and institutions.
However, NIPSS maintained that the situation is under control and that normal operations remain unaffected following the incident.
