Despite the successful rescue, security forces have launched an intensive manhunt for two other victims who remain in the custody of the fleeing gunmen. The incident occurred late on the evening of June 24, 2026. At approximately 9:05 p.m., security personnel received distress reports regarding criminal activities near the Mista Ali area.
A rapid response team was immediately dispatched to intercept the perpetrators. Upon arrival, the troops engaged the suspected kidnappers, forcing them to abandon some of their captives and flee the scene. The three rescued victims identified as Osuji Franklin, Danjuma Moses, and Irimiya Shehu—sustained varying degrees of injury during the encounter.
They were promptly evacuated to the General Hospital in Mista Ali, where they are currently receiving medical attention. Preliminary investigations revealed that before the troops could secure the area, the gunmen successfully abducted two other individuals, identified as Dayo and Henry Owen.
Authorities also discovered an abandoned Opel Zafira vehicle (registration number RYM 25 A2) at the site, which is now being processed as part of the ongoing investigation. Security agencies have since intensified patrol and intelligence-gathering efforts in the Bassa region to track the suspects and ensure the safe release of the remaining two victims.See More
