The appointments include 31 career diplomats from the foreign service and 34 non-career ambassadors drawn from various professional and political backgrounds. The envoys will serve in Nigerian missions abroad as ambassadors or high commissioners, depending on the host country.
The confirmation of the ambassadors-designate had earlier been completed by the Senate in December 2025, paving the way for their formal posting to diplomatic missions.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the presidency disclosed that several notable figures were among those assigned to foreign missions.
According to the statement, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has been posted to Germany, while former presidential aide and political commentator Reno Omokri will represent Nigeria in Mexico.
The presidential aide explained that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already begun the diplomatic process required for the ambassadors to assume their roles in their respective host countries.
As part of this process, the United Kingdom has granted agrément — the formal diplomatic approval required from a host nation — for Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu. Similarly, the French government has issued agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke to serve as Nigeria’s envoy to France.
Onanuga noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally communicated the nominations of the remaining ambassadors-designate to the relevant countries. The ministry has also requested agréments from those governments in accordance with established diplomatic protocols.
In international diplomacy, agrément is a crucial step before an ambassador can officially assume duties in a foreign country. It ensures that the receiving state accepts the nominated diplomat as the official representative of the sending nation.
The deployment of the ambassadors is expected to enhance Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives, strengthen bilateral relations, and expand economic, political, and cultural cooperation with other nations.
Diplomatic missions play a key role in representing national interests abroad, promoting trade and investment, supporting Nigerian citizens overseas, and advancing cooperation on global issues such as security, climate change, and development.
In addition to approving the postings, President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to begin an induction programme for all the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners. The orientation programme is designed to prepare the envoys for their diplomatic assignments and brief them on Nigeria’s current foreign policy priorities.
The training typically includes sessions on diplomatic protocol, international relations, consular services, and strategies for promoting Nigeria’s interests in host countries.
Observers say the induction process will help ensure that both career and non-career diplomats are fully equipped to represent Nigeria effectively on the global stage.
The posting of the ambassadors marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements, as the government seeks to deepen international partnerships and strengthen its representation in strategic regions of the world.
With the confirmation and deployment process now underway, the ambassadors-designate are expected to begin their official assignments once the necessary diplomatic clearances from host countries are completed.

The deceased, identified as Audi Emmanuel, was discovered hanging from a rope in his room. By the time neighbours forced the door open, his body had already begun to emit a foul smell.
The incident happened along Awolowo Road, Emure-Ile, in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, and has left fellow students and residents in shock.
According to neighbours, they noticed a persistent bad odour coming from Emmanuel’s room and, after several unsuccessful attempts to reach him, decided to break in.
One neighbour explained, “We found Emmanuel’s body hanging inside his rented apartment. The stench was overwhelming. Nobody knows what led him to take such a step. There was no suicide note that we could find. We immediately called the police, and they came to remove the body.”

The Nigerian Army disclosed the development in an operational update made available to journalists in Abuja on Sunday. The report indicated that the incident resulted from an internal confrontation among armed factions operating in the area.
It further stated that about 12 suspected terrorists were killed during the clash, while troops continued to monitor the situation.
The army also reported a separate operation in Zamfara State under Operation Fansan Yamma, where troops responded to an attack on Gidan Daji village in Maru Local Government Area.

At schools such as LEA Ijayapi Primary School and LEA Byazhin Primary School, both teachers and students were absent, with classrooms locked and school premises left inactive as of early morning.
The strike follows a decision by the NUT FCT Executive Council, which instructed members to withdraw their services over unresolved welfare-related demands.
In a communiqué issued after an emergency State Wing Executive Council (SWEC) meeting held in Gwagwalada on Friday, the union directed full compliance with the industrial action and advised parents to keep their children at home.
The union also asked members to await further instructions, pending possible negotiations with the FCT administration.
According to the statement, the action came after a review of a seven-day ultimatum earlier issued to the Minister of the FCT on March 11. While the union acknowledged the implementation of the ₦70,000 national minimum wage, it said several other demands remained unresolved.
“After exhaustive deliberations on the industrial issues and the silence on the legitimate demands of teachers’ welfare, the Council resolved that all public primary and secondary school teachers in the FCT shall, with effect from Monday, proceed on an indefinite strike until our demands are met,” the union stated.
