Residents of Mercyland (Jabe CDA) in the Oke Eletu area of Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos State, say they are abandoning their homes following a series of armed robbery attacks that culminated in the killing of a Community Development Association (CDA) executive.
The latest incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of July 12, when suspected armed robbers invaded the community between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. Residents alleged that the attackers broke into several homes, carted away cash, mobile phones and other valuables, and left multiple victims injured.
Among those killed was Mr. Abdulazeez Olaoye, a CDA executive, who residents said was attacked with machetes while attempting to alert neighbours about the robbery. Community members claimed he later died from injuries sustained during the assault.
Residents also alleged that one victim suffered severe injuries after robbers destroyed his CCTV camera before breaking into his home. According to community accounts, the homeowner narrowly escaped a fatal machete attack by raising his hand, leaving one of his fingers badly injured.
Community members claimed the latest attack was the sixth robbery incident recorded in the area this year. They further alleged that previous attacks included the rape of a woman and serious machete injuries inflicted on other residents, although these claims have not been independently verified.
The worsening security situation, residents said, has forced several families to relocate, while those remaining now live in constant fear. They appealed to the Lagos State Government and security agencies to strengthen patrols, investigate the killing of the CDA executive, and arrest those responsible.
Residents also called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Lagos State Police Command to urgently improve security in the community to prevent further attacks and restore public confidence….See More
