The president made the remarks on Wednesday while addressing leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council at the State House in Abuja.

Tinubu said Nigeria’s democratic journey over the past 26 years has been sustained through the voluntary commitment and sacrifices of political actors across different parties.

“I am glad we are all democrats and we all subscribe to this democracy voluntarily and willingly. We have been at it selflessly in the last 26 years,” the president said.

Reaffirming his personal belief in democratic governance, Tinubu said his dedication to democracy remains strong.

“I am a die-hard democrat and I follow that belief wholeheartedly, committed to a united country, Nigeria. That principle and philosophy will live and die with me,” he stated.

The president also stressed the importance of respecting the rule of law and democratic processes. He said political disagreements should be resolved through dialogue and intellectual debate rather than threats.

“The rule of law must prevail before any democrat. The majority will have their say and their way, and the minority will have their say and might not have their way. That is the sweetness and essence of democracy,” Tinubu said.

He added that he remains loyal to the political platform he belongs to while recognizing the rights of others within Nigeria’s multi-party system.

“I am a registered voter. Whether I am on the same platform with you or not, I am going to stick to my platform,” he said.

Reflecting on his political experience, Tinubu noted that he had previously remained in opposition without issuing threats, even during difficult political periods.

“When it was against me years past, I toed the line and stayed in opposition without threatening anyone but the military junta,” he added.

Tinubu concluded by urging political leaders to uphold peace, stability, and democratic values for the country’s continued progress. ...Click to Read Full Article Here>>

Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal announces resignation from PDP and defection to ADC

Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC)....Click to Read Full Article Here>>

Tambuwal announced the decision in a statement shared on his 𝕏 account early Thursday. He said the move followed careful reflection and consultations with political associates and supporters.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives said he had already submitted a written resignation letter to his ward chairman before formally joining the ADC.

“Today, after deep reflection and consultations, I have formally resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, and I have communicated my resignation to my ward chairman in writing,” he stated.

Tambuwal explained that the decision was influenced by ongoing internal challenges within the PDP. According to him, persistent leadership disagreements and deepening divisions within the party made it difficult for him to remain.

He noted that the crisis within the party had weakened the unity and direction that once defined it.

“The persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions within the PDP have made it increasingly difficult to continue my membership of the party,” he said.

Tambuwal acknowledged the role the PDP played in his political career. Under the party, he served as Speaker of the House of Representatives and later completed two terms as Governor of Sokoto State.

Explaining his decision to join the ADC, Tambuwal said he believes the party offers a stronger platform for democratic progress in Nigeria.

“I am convinced that this decision is guided by my belief that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development,” he added.
