Notorious Bandit Leader Dies

A feared bandit leader, Kachallah Auwalu, has been killed during a violent confrontation between rival armed groups in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The incident marks another episode in a string of deadly infighting among criminal gangs operating within forest regions of the state.

According to a counter-insurgency report by Zagazola Makama, the clash occurred on Saturday around 4:35 pm in the Maganda area, a location long associated with bandit activity.

Security sources cited in the report described Auwalu as a key figure within one of the armed factions, with strong influence across the Maganda, Kuyello, and Dogon Dawa axis.

The confrontation was said to be part of ongoing rivalries among armed groups, a pattern that has escalated in recent months across forest communities in the region.

The report further indicated that another faction, allegedly led by a notorious bandit commander, Dogo Gide, was moving towards the area at the time of the clash.

Although casualties were recorded on both sides, exact figures had not been confirmed as of press time.

In response, troops under Sector 1 of Operation Fansan Yamma have been placed on high alert to monitor developments and prevent further escalation of violence.

Security efforts, including surveillance and intelligence-led operations, have been intensified across Birnin Gwari and neighbouring communities as authorities work to restore stability and curb the activities of armed groups.

The development comes amid rising concerns over renewed banditry and the proliferation of armed factions in parts of the North-West, with residents expressing growing fears over their safety as rival groups battle for dominance.

In a related incident, another notorious bandit leader, Dogo Isah, was reportedly killed in a separate clash with a rival faction in Kaduna State. He was said to have died during a confrontation linked to cattle rustling in Kachia forest on January 7, 2025, after orchestrating several attacks in Kachia and parts of Kajuru Local Government Area.
