A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has restated his position that he won the 2023 presidential election, arguing that the officially announced outcome did not reflect the actual result.
Obi made the remarks on Saturday while speaking on the Naija Unfiltered podcast, where he insisted that his campaign secured victory despite the declaration by electoral authorities.
“I can show you today, as far as I’m concerned, I ran for the office of the President of Nigeria and won. But the system decided otherwise, and they know it,” he said.
Reinforcing his stance, the former Labour Party presidential candidate repeated the claim, stressing that he remains convinced of his victory in the poll.
Obi, who contested the election under the Labour Party, garnered about six million votes. The election also featured major contenders, including President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The 2023 presidential election remains a subject of political debate, with Obi continuing to challenge the legitimacy of the declared results.
