Woman arrested for holding knife against a little girl

The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old woman, Mrs. Nwoko Gift, over the alleged attempted murder of her 12-year-old house help, Miss Ebony Chimamanda, in Umuahia.

According to the police, the arrest followed the circulation of a viral video on social media showing the suspect allegedly attempting to attack the child with a knife.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Command said preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred on July 5, 2026.

Police said the suspect, an indigene of Ehime Mbano in Imo State who resides at IBB Housing Estate in Umuahia, allegedly attacked the victim after accusing her of failing to spread clothes before she left for the market.

The Command further disclosed that investigations indicated the young girl had allegedly been subjected to repeated physical abuse and threats to her life by the suspect.

According to the statement, operatives from the World Bank Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly responded to actionable intelligence, rescued the victim, arrested the suspect and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

Police said Mrs. Nwoko Gift will be charged with attempted murder upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Abia State Police Command condemned the alleged attack and urged members of the public to promptly report cases of child abuse, domestic violence and other violent crimes to the nearest police station….See More
