Reason FG May Not Negotiate, Release Nnamdi Kanu – Stakeholders

Despite the readiness of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), to negotiate with the Federal Government, stakeholders doubt that the Federal Government, led by Bola Tinubu, would be willing to consider that option. Barrister Emeka Iheonu, a Lagos lawyer, who spoke to Sunday Independent on the renewed call by Chief Clark, said accepting Kanu’s willingness for negotiation would have been a smart way to end the economic crisis brought about by sit-at-homes in the South-East. “Though former President Muhammadu Buhari refused to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from detention after his abduction from Kenya even despite a court ruling in October 2022 ordering his release, there have been calls on President Bola Tinubu since his inauguration in May, 2023 to release Mazi Kanu. A year later, the president has not heeded the said calls. “In March, 2024, a Federal High Court judge denied Nnamdi Kanu bail. I believe he has appealed. “However, more bodies like Ohaneze Ndigbo, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), etc, have also called for his release. “The latest is the call by Chief Edwin Clark, an elder statesman. “Kanu’s release, in my opinion, will pave the way to economic prosperity and security in the South East. “His continued detention has been the major cause of insecurity in the South East. “The Monday sit-at-home has paralysed the economy of the South East by making many businesses lose billions of naira every week,” he said. Elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, recently added his voice to the renewed call for the release of Kanu. Julius Adegunna, a media executive and public affairs analyst, said: “If you can recall what Nnamdi Kanu did during ENDSARS crisis, most especially against the personality and business of Senator Ahmed Tinubu as a former Lagos State governor, President Tinubu will not jump at freeing the IPOB leader. “Besides, it does not seem as if Kanu’s IPOB followers are ready to allow peace to reign with what they are doing in the South East. “They need to humble themselves before the Nigerian government to allow peace to reign. You cannot be pleading for an accused person standing trial and be causing trouble at the same time. “So, whoever wants to plead for Kanu should be sure that peace reigns before and after their requests, which will lead to his eventual release by the court. I wish them all the best.” Barrister Blessing Joseph Afang, a human rights lawyer, in her contribution told Sunday Independent that Nnamdi Kanu’s release on bail will be difficult. According to her, her view was based on the fact that Kanu jumped bail two years after his arrest in 2015, noting that he was first arrested in 2015 and still remains in detention. Barrister Afang, President, the International Human Rights Protection Service Florida, USA, Nigeria Chapter (IHRPS/F), stressed: “The Supreme Court of Nigeria upheld the Federal Government appeal. “The Supreme Court set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which ordered the release of Kanu and then ordered the resumption of his trial before the Federal High Court, Abuja, on terrorism related charges. Meanwhile, Hon. Charles Anike, the National President of Eastern Union (EU), has said that the organisation supports Nnamdi Kanu’s consideration for out-of-court settlement with the Federal Government. Speaking with Sunday Independent from his Abuja base, Hon. Anike, stated that the EU, a political pressure group for the people of the old Eastern Region, supports the arrangement, which he described as a short-cut solution to the crisis that has almost paralysed the South East. Anike stated: “The speculations that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is considering out-of-court settlement with the Federal Government is a way forward and a sort of short-cut solution to solving the long overdue problem that has almost crippled the robust economy of the South East and some parts of South-South.” He recalled that many prominent citizens at several times had suggested to the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government to seek a political solution to resolving the problem, but regretted that that administration enjoyed the pains and frustration of the Nigerians, hence it remained adamant to the call. According to Anike, “This is a man illegally adopted by the government and ever since, the government has kept amending their charges against him, and yet to no avail. “Individuals, including foreign governments and civil societies, have been calling on the government, during and after Buhari to seek a political solution and then release the IPOB leader so that peace and normalcy can once again return in the region. “But the various governments remained adamant, probably enjoying the crisis and shedding of innocent blood in the East, especially in the South-East. “It is very obvious that the government has no genuine case against Kanu, but has been detaining him out of hatred. “This position was confirmed when others accused of the same crimes as Kanu have long regained their freedom and are moving freely. “Therefore, it will be a good omen, both for the government, Kanu and the people of South-East in particular, if the Tinubu-led Federal Government can at this point begin to retrace its steps towards obeying court orders and justice. “Political solutions to resolving the lingering problems are believed by many as the only way to go and the way forward. “I believe too that the Federal Government right now has too many problems to focus on, rather than continuing to entangle itself with baseless cases against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. “The continued incarceration of Kanu will no doubt continue to be a distraction to any serious government and also abuse of his fundamental human rights.” When Kanu stated his desire for negotiation at the last session in court, FG’s lawyer, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), responded that he had earlier informed the defendant that he (Kanu) lacked the powers to embark on such negotiation since it was not part of the fiat that was issued to him by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice. Awomolo maintained that only the AGF had the authority to negotiate or take further steps in relation to the matter, noting that the case bordered on alleged terrorism. “If he is interested in negotiating, he knows the right place: the Attorney General of the Federation’s office,” Adegboyega stated. Reacting to the development, trial Justice Binta Nyako said the duty of the court was to hear the matter that was brought before it and not to act as a solicitor for any of the parties. She said it was left for the parties to agree on the way they wanted the matter to go. “If you want to discuss with the AGF, no problem at all,” Justice Nyako added.Discover more from Ability Digitalz

Ex-Konga CEO Nick Imudia’s Death Not A Suicide; He Was Full Of Life, Says Family

This is contained in a statement signed by Dr. Anthony N. Imudia, who dismissed reports that Imudia had made farewell calls to his brother and daughter, leaving instructions before his passing. The family of Nick Imudia, the former Chief Executive Officer of e-commerce giant Konga, has vehemently denied rumours that he committed suicide. This is contained in a statement signed by Dr. Anthony N. Imudia, who dismissed reports that Imudia had made farewell calls to his brother and daughter, leaving instructions before his passing. The family described the claims as untrue. The statement read, “The family of Nick Imudia is unhappy with the unprofessional manner the media has wrongly characterised the reporting of Nick Imudia’s death as suicide. “This is also supported by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police’s office that has vowed to investigate the sudden death of Nick. Neither did Nick call his brother in America with instructions on how to distribute his wealth, nor placed a call to his daughter with any instructions. “How come the news was reported so hastily (less than 3 hours from his death) before his family members even knew about it and the medical team was still trying to resuscitate him at the hospital! The Imudia family wonders!” The family added that the former Konga CEO hailed from a close-knit family with a good support system. “Nick never showed any sign of stress and he was not diagnosed as depressed at any point. The thought of suicide in the manner portrayed and hastily reported by the news media is suspect,” the family said. Nick Imudia, until his death was the Group CEO of D.light International with Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, where he was residing. N. Imudia said that the deceased managed the company’s worldwide operations from Nairobi. The family said, “Nick was full of life and people that worked closely with him or met him in the last hours prior to the incident surrounding his death were shocked with the media attributing his death to ‘suicide’. “He was on a short visit to Lagos after a brief trip to the Netherlands and was to return to Nairobi a day after his sudden death. Nick made his initial career mark with Nokia, the Finnish based Telecommunication Company before he was transferred from Helsinki to manage Nokia Asia operations in Singapore. “Later in his career with Nokia, he was appointed as the Managing Director of Nokia – West and Central Africa. When Microsoft bought Nokia, he opted to leave the company. Looking for a new challenge, he became the CEO of Konga Nigeria where he reengineered the company’s operation. “At his prime age and the level of his achievements, people who knew Nick well are all shocked and do not accept the characterization of his death as suicide. Members of Nick’s family do request the media and the general public to allow them to grief their loved one without any unfounded rumour of the circumstances surrounding his death.” SaharaReporters had earlier reported that Nick Imudia reportedly committed suicide in his home by jumping from the balcony of his Lekki, Lagos apartment on the night of Tuesday, June 25. Nick was until his death the CEO of D.light, a company that specialises in the distribution and financing of residential solar energy solutions and transformational household products.Discover more from Ability Digitalz

At least two more victims of the bomb attacks in Gwoza town in Borno State have lost their lives while receiving treatment at the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri. The Acting Governor of the state, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, made this known in an interview with reporters during a visit to the hospital on Sunday. Kadafur said out of the 42 injured victims who were admitted to the hospital, 16 of them have been discharged, while 24 were currently receiving treatment in the hospital. The acting governor also announced that the state government had settled the medical bills of the victims and is ensuring they receive adequate medical attention. He said that despite the attack, the fight against insurgency and terrorism must continue, adding the state government condemned the attacks on the people. Kadafur also revealed that the perpetrators of the attacks took advantage of the laxity of vigilance by the people following the relative peace achieved in the state. He also appealed to the people to be more vigilant and report any suspicious movement or persons they notice in their area to security personnel so as to avoid a similar occurrence of the incident. Kadafur was accompanied to the hospital by the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Ali Ndume, a member representing Damboa, Gwoza and Chibok Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Ahmadu Jaha, and other government officials.Discover more from Ability Digitalz

Revealed How Traditional Ruler Of Owerre-ezukala, Thomas Ogbannaya Working For Unknown Gunmen
![](https://abilitydigitalz.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Screenshot-2024-07-01-at-11-45-57-BREAKING-Traditional-Ruler-Of-Owerre-ezukala-Thomas-Ogbannaya-Working-For-Unknown-Gunmen.png)
Today’s Hamster Kombat Daily Combo
In a now viral video, the wife of a well known commander of the Eastern Security Network, ESN confessed that the traditional ruler of her village, Igwe Thomas Ogbannaya is working in collaboration with members of the ESN to commit atrocities in Anambra State. The confession came after a raid in Owerre-Ezukala community conducted by men of the Nigerian military last week Tuesday as part of the ongoing operation Udoka in the South East. While being interrogated by men of the Nigerian Army, Mrs Ujunwa Agueze, who’s husband, Onyedika Agueze is currently on the run, confessed that, the igwe of the community allocated lands to IPOB/ESN members where they set up an operational base since 2022. It is from this camp that all the killings and kidnappings taking place in Anambra South Senatorial zone is being carried out. She also confessed that the traditional ruler normally uses members of the ESN in settling land disputes within the community. Many individuals have been killed within the community, houses burnt and some individuals who were taken into the bush from where the group operates never returned. The community which is in Orumba South LGA of Anambra State, shares borders with Alaw in Orji-River LGA of Enugu State and Isuochi in Umunneochi LGA of Abia State. Since it is a walking distance from Isuochi, the ESN men normally enter Isuochi on foot, carry out attacks and kidnappings in Abia State and return to Owerre-Ezukala while the attacks are being attributed to the so-called unknown gun men camp in Umunneochi. The group is reported to have also carried out several attacks on Soldiers in some parts of Imo State. Many kidnap victims are regularly brought into the village in the open. While some are released after payment of ransom. The not so-lucky ones never make it out of the camp. Independent investigations conducted show that the entire community has been over run by members of the ESN as they not only sleep in the camps but also are living within the community in the houses of many youths in the village that have been recruited to join the group. Feelers from other villages within Orumba South LGA indicates that the group is operating without restrictions or fear as they are being shielded by Owerre-Ezukala community.Discover more from Ability Digitalz
