Eight people were reportedly feared dead when a one-storey building collapsed in the Kuntau area of Gwale Local Government Area, Kano State. It was gathered that the incident occurred early Friday morning while labourers were working on the construction site. Sources from the area reported that at least 15 individuals, including the owner, construction workers, and passersby sought shelter in the building during early morning rainfall. Upon receiving the news, Sharu’s wife hurried to the scene, calling out for assistance. Neighbours and bystanders also mobilised to aid those trapped under the rubble. It was learnt that seven people were rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, and one person died on the way. The source added that other victims were currently receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

Abia State is set to key into the first phase of Presi­dent Bola Tinu­bu’s larger vision of provid­ing 12 housing estates and three cities across the coun­try which will catalyse eco­nomic growth and provide direct and indirect jobs. Performing the ground­breaking of the Abia State Renewed Hope Estate in Umuoche Bende in Bende Local Government Area, Governor Alex Chioma Otti expressed delight in Mr. President’s gesture in constructing 250 housing units which will help cre­ate job opportunities, pro­mote commercial activities in the area as well as ease accommodation challenges faced by Abia residents. Governor Otti who was represented by his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, commended the Federal Government for embarking on the project and assured of the state government’s support in providing adequate securi­ty to the contractors for a seamless execution of the project. “We thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for this laudable project. This project will create jobs for Abians and keep our youths busy. We are trying our best to advance the ease of do­ing business in the state. “We assure you as a gov­ernment that everybody working in this very proj­ect is secured so that this project is delivered and our people take possession of this will be guaranteed,” Otti said. Delivering his address, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangi­wa, thanked Governor Otti for his swift approval in providing land for the project, thus, reducing the cost of the housing units for potential homeowners. He charged the developers to be committed to deliver­ing quality work as speci­fied within three months to enable Abians to purchase and take possession of the facility. The minister stated; “dif­ferent options were created to enable everyone who has a source of income and live­lihood to own these homes when they are completed. These include single-digit mortgage loans that ben­eficiaries can repay over 30 years and rent-to-own schemes provided by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, and outright pur­chase options for those who can afford to pay upfront,” the minister said.

Paulo shared the video amid his viral beef with controversial activist Verydarkman. The Federal Government has received at least 103 Nigerians deported from Turkey over migration related issues. Some of the issues were expired visas, irregular migration, among others. Alhaji Tijani Ahmed, the Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, NCFRMI stated this on Friday during the deportees’ profiling in Abuja. Represented by Amb. Catherine Udida, the Director Migration Affairs in the commission, Ahmed said that the commission expected 110 deportees but received 103, all males. “Some of them have been in the deportation camp for some months, and now that they are here, we are hoping to follow up on all the allegations gathered in their profiling. “We will go through the profiling forms, because some of them have said that their passports were seized. “We are going to follow up with the Turkish authority, because the passports are still the property of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he assured. According to him, the NCFRMI is the mandate agency responsible for all returnees, irrespective of their status. “We equally have a programme where we train them and thereafter reintegrate them into the society”, the Federal Commissioner stated.

The Court of Appeal panel in Awka, Anambra State capi­tal, upheld the lower court’s decision that Chief Romanus Ezeonwuka, the second re­spondent/applicant, should be considered co-owner of Tansi­an University, Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The Appellate Panel, con­sisting of Justices Oboetonba­ra Daniel-Kalio, Isa Gafai, and Musa Mainoma, ruled on an appeal filed by Tansian Uni­versity, Umunya/Oba through its lawyer, Dr. E.S.C. Obiorah (SAN), challenging the trial court’s order to repossess the entire property and receive N200 million as general dam­ages for possessing and occupy­ing the plaintiff’s property. Anthony Nwankwo filed a suit at the lower court on be­half of the applicants, Ranent Industries Company Limited (1st Applicant) and Ezeonwu­ka (2nd Applicant) in suit No HID/89/2008. He sought a declaration that the 1st Plaintiff (now 2nd Respondent) is entitled to the right of occupancy over the land at Oba, registered in the Land Registry Enugu (now Awka), subject to refund by the 2nd Defendant of any money the 2nd Defendant paid to the bank. The Counsel applied for a declaration that the 2nd Plain­tiff is a co-owner, co-proprietor, and co-investor with the 2nd Defendant University. He is entitled to reap his in­vestment by contributing to the 2nd Plaintiff’s property at Oba, registered as No.60 on Page 60 in Volume 1269 of the Land Registry Enugu (now Awka). The applicants’ lawyer re­quested a declaration that the 2nd Plaintiff has the right of occupancy over the property registered as No. 65 in Volume 1011 at the Land Registry Office in Enugu (now Awka). If the 2nd Plaintiff is not recognised as a co-investor or co-founder of the 2nd Defen­dant University, the 2nd Plain­tiff may repossess its entire property at Oba, registered as No. 60 at Page 60 in Volume 1269 of the said Registry, upon refund by the 2nd Plaintiff of money paid by the latter to the bank in the redemption of the 2nd Plaintiff’s indebtedness. The Counsel requested that the 2nd Plaintiff, who has the right of occupancy over the land at Oba registered as No 65 in Volume 1011 of the Registry, repossess the property and pay N200 million in general damages for possessing and occupying it.

Similarly, Bashir Garga, the North-Central Zonal Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), assured the returnees of government readiness to support them through collaborative efforts of all relevant agencies. One of the victims, Arinze Stone, said that Turkish authorities arrested and detained him in the camp for about six months. Stone said he had been living in Turkey for quite some years doing business. “They were arresting people whose papers are not yet out or just expired,” he said. He alleged that it was since the European Union started paying Turkey for illegal immigrants, that the government stopped issuing and renewing resident permits. “Each day, the European Union pays 120 euros per head of immigrants in the Immigration Camp. “Ever since I had been in Turkey, I always had my resident permit renewed. It just expired and the Turkish authority collected 700 euros from me for tax and insurance and then cancelled the renewal,” he explained. Stone added that the deportation fee of about 2,500 Euros that was supposed to be given to each victim was not paid. Another victim, Moses Emeh, said he had a registered company in Turkey which had been functioning for more than eight years. “I also have a resident permit, which was forcibly cancelled but I had earlier planned to convert it into a working permit. ” I don’t know where to start from. But I believe this is a diplomatic issue and I trust our foreign affairs minister to follow it up. “I also think that they should have a sensitisation programme for Nigerians still living over there in Turkey because the Turkish government is not being sincere and transparent with us,” Emeh stated He narrated that he was arrested and put in a dungeon, for 11 months and three weeks.

No fewer than 14 persons died on Friday in an auto-crash at Imawa town along the Zaria – Kano highway in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State. The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the accident to newsmen on Friday in Kano. He said that the accident occurred when a truck with registration number MKA 537 XN lost control and collided with pedestrians who had just concluded Friday prayers and killed 14 of them Abdullahi said, “We received a distress call at about 01:50 p.m. on June 28, 2024, On receiving the information, we quickly dispatched our personnel and vehicle to the scene of the accident. “The FRSC is committed to road safety and urges all road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies. The sector commander extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and assured the public that efforts were ongoing to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the crash. Former First lady, Dame Patience Jonathan says if she is requested to return to the presidential villa to function as Nigerian First Lady, she would decline. In a viral video clip, Mrs Patience, who spoke on Friday at a public function, said “the stress of Nigeria is too much”, stressing that she looks younger than when she was in office. President Bola Tinubu has reacted to the death of elder statesman, Alhaji Ahmadu Abdulkadir, also known as Amadu Na-Funtua. The deceased, better known as Amadu Na-Funtua, was a renowned leader, politician, and businessman, Naija News understands. President Tinubu, in a statement on Friday, released by his special adviser on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in which he mourned the death of the elder statesman, extended his condolences to the government and people of Katsina State over the passing of the elder statesman and long-reigning Sa’in Katsina. The President stated that the contributions of the late Na-Funtua to community building and development will long be remembered. He also prayed for Allah’s mercy on the soul of the deceased and comfort for his family. Tinubu Is Not Working Against The North – Shettima Vice President Kashim Shettima has said that President Bola Tinubu is not working against the North. He asserted that the president is interested in the growth of Northern Nigeria as against a series of insinuations that the President is working to cripple the region. Shettima stated this on Wednesday while receiving a Federal Government delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, on a condolence visit to him over the death of his mother-in-law. The VP insisted that Tinubu appointed the two Ministers of Defence Chief of Defence Staff, and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission from the North to show his concerns over what is happening in the region. In the same vein, the Vice President explained that Tinubu has good intentions for the nation, urging Nigerians to rally round him for him to be able to achieve the desired goals of making the country great.

Some of the goods looted by armed robbers in Delta State and recovered by the operatives of Delta State Police Command. The operatives of the Delta State Police Command, said they have arrested two robbery suspects who participated in the robbery attacks of some students of Western Delta University. The police alleged that two belong to a 6-man gang, which also attacks and rob churches and warehouses in the state. Also arrested were two suspects for alleged receiving of the robbery loots from the gang. Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Command confirmed the arrest. Edafe, a Superintendent of Police (SP) said that following the armed robbery operations carried out by suspected armed robbers at the Western Delta University, Oghara, on June 20, 2024, the Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi directed that the case be transferred to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ekpan Division; CSP Aliyu Shaba, for a discreet investigation. Some of the goods looted by armed robbers in Delta State and recovered by the operatives of Delta State Police Command. According to the police image maker, the DPO in compliance with the CP’s directive, swiftly embarked on an intelligence-led operation adding that on June 24, 2024, at about 6.30pm, he trailed the suspects to a hotel in Aziza Junction, Sapele Road, where one Okoro Udochukwu, a 36-year-old man from Ore II Community and Sunday Dickson (male), 32, of Ore II Community were arrested. The duo according to him, are members of the six-man gang terrorising Warri, Sapele, Oghara and other parts of Delta State. He said that they specialized in breaking into churches, companies and warehouses, while armed with guns. Edafe said that preliminary investigation revealed that on May 26, 2024, they allegedly robbed a ware house in Warri and stole 120 bags of rice and sold some of them. The suspects, according to him, led the police to the arrest of one Arinze Ezisi, a 44-year-old man from Okumaga community, one Titus Chinedu, (male) 47, of Okumaga community. He said that diligent search was conducted at their stores/houses, which led to the recovery of 38 bags of rice, one silver crest blender , one inverter engine with two inverter batteries, three sharp photocopying machines and two sharp standing AC, five LG Homes-Theaters, one Hisense air conditioner; three inter com machine, one 50 inches black LG television; two shovels one black Hisense speaker, eight yards of armoured cable; six generators, five stabilisers three Kenstar A/C; two Hisense standing AC, three Hisense inverter AC; peculiar professional mixer, three Kenstar standing AC one Panasonic AC, one pumping machine; five sound prinex , one Yamaha piano; five gas cylinders, twenty-one amplifiers; four guitars, four LG speakers; five microwave , two MP3; one OX standing fan, three chusion chairs, one large vita foam matrass and large quantity of copper. “They carry out these operations using two sienna vehicles and one shuttle bus which they use to carry the stolen item. Efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang, and recover their operational vehicle,” Edafe said.
