Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed officials to begin fresh enforcement action against structures allegedly built on lands not approved for development in Abuja, as part of efforts to protect the city’s master plan.
The minister issued the directive after inspecting sections of an ongoing road project, where he said he observed construction activities taking place on lands not legally allocated for development.
Wike Orders Immediate Action
Speaking during the inspection, Wike said he had instructed the acting Director of Development Control to identify and remove structures found to have violated planning regulations.
According to him, the administration would not tolerate land grabbing or development carried out outside approved processes.
“Sometimes last week, I told the contractor that I wanted to see where this road starts from. They took me there, and I noticed that land grabbers have started developing lands not given to them,” he said.
“I’ve asked for the acting Director of Development Control. He should go and bring all down. Heaven will not fall. Rather, it will be at peace when things are done properly.”
FCT Restates Commitment to Abuja Master Plan
The directive forms part of ongoing efforts by the FCT Administration to strengthen compliance with urban planning regulations and curb unauthorised developments across the capital territory.
Wike has repeatedly maintained that orderly urban expansion depends on strict adherence to approved layouts and legal land allocation processes.
The minister stressed that enforcement actions are aimed at preserving the long-term development vision of Abuja and preventing illegal occupation of government land.
Political Comments Separate From Enforcement Exercise
Separately, Wike also commented on national political developments during a recent media interaction, where he expressed views on opposition alignments and the prospects of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
However, the comments were unrelated to the latest development control measures announced by the FCT Administration.
