Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has stirred fresh debate after claiming that any Nigerian artiste hoping to win or secure a Grammy nomination must first collaborate with him.
The outspoken singer made the remarks during an appearance on Rubbin’ Minds on Channels Television, where he also described himself as the “new-born Fela” and touted his influence in the music industry.

Speaking during the interview aired on Sunday, July 19, Portable said he believes his presence on a song is now essential for artistes chasing music’s biggest prize.
“If any artiste wants to collect Grammy in this Nigeria, if you don’t feature me, you won’t collect Grammy. If you want to collect a Grammy nomination, come and feature me. I am the new face. I am the new-born Fela,” he said.
