Osun Election: APM Candidate Says Adeleke’s Victory Shows Power of Determined Voters

Laja Adeoye

The victory of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in the governorship election has been described by the Lagos State governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Prince Laja Adeoye, as evidence that determined voters can withstand political pressure and defend their choice at the ballot box.

Adeoye made the remarks in a congratulatory statement issued on Sunday, arguing that the Osun election demonstrated the importance of protecting votes and allowing citizens to freely exercise their democratic rights.

‘A Determined People Cannot Be Defeated’

According to Adeoye, the result sends a message that political influence and government resources cannot indefinitely override the will of voters.

“The outcome of this election is a powerful reminder to the ruling APC that a determined people cannot be defeated.”

He further argued that even the deployment of significant government resources could not permanently suppress the electorate’s choice.

“Even if all the funds in the nation’s treasury are expended, and every apparatus of the state is deployed against the will of the people, that will shall still prevail,” he said.

‘Votes Remain the Ultimate Weapon’

Adeoye said the Osun electorate had demonstrated the importance of ensuring that votes are both freely cast and adequately protected.

“The Osun electorate has shown Nigeria once again that votes, when protected and courageously cast, remain the ultimate weapon against political tyranny,” he stated.

His comments come after a closely contested election that attracted considerable political attention ahead of the 2027 general elections.

How the Election Was Decided

Adeleke, who contested the August 15 election on the platform of the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 444,815 votes.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.

Adeleke won 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victories in the remaining 11.

What the Result Signals

For Adeoye, the Osun election reinforces the importance of electoral participation and vote protection in Nigeria’s democratic process.

The result also gives Adeleke another four-year mandate and places greater attention on how his administration will use the second term to respond to the expectations of the electorate…..see more
