Adeleke Thanks Tinubu, Calls Osun Re-election ‘Victory for Democracy’

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed gratitude to God and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following his re-election, describing the victory as a triumph for democracy and the people of Osun State.

Adeleke spoke shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him winner of the August 15 governorship election.

‘The People Are Saying Thank You’

Speaking in Ede, Adeleke said the result reflected the people’s appreciation of his administration’s performance during its first term.

He pointed to his government’s efforts in infrastructure, education, agriculture and other sectors, saying the election result represented a reward for those achievements.

“This re-election is the people of Osun State saying, ‘Thank you, Mr Governor,’ for the work we have done,” he said.

The governor also outlined his ambition for his second term, saying he wants to transform Osun from a largely civil service-dependent state into an industrial state, with development reaching communities across the state.

Adeleke Thanks Tinubu for Congratulatory Call

Adeleke also confirmed that President Tinubu personally called to congratulate him after the election.

The governor thanked the President, saying his actions had helped ensure that democracy continued to thrive.

“I want to seize this opportunity to thank Mr President. Mr President has called me and congratulated me. Thank you, Mr President, for ensuring that democracy lives on, because you fought for it,” Adeleke said.

‘No Victor, No Vanquished’

Following the closely contested election, Adeleke adopted a conciliatory tone and called for unity.

He said there should be no bitterness after the contest and expressed hope that his major challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), would accept the result.

“It is no victor, no vanquished. I am expecting the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, to call me and congratulate me,” he said.

Adeleke won 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victories in the remaining 11 LGAs.
