Police in Zambia’s Central Province are investigating the death of a 34-year-old teacher at Shitima Secondary School in Kabwe after she was found unconscious at her residence.
The deceased, identified as Konkola, taught English and Religious Education at the grant-aided Catholic mission school.
Mother found daughter unconscious
According to police, the teacher’s mother travelled from Mkushi to Kabwe after being invited by her daughter.
When she arrived at the residence at about 5:00 p.m., she reportedly found her daughter unconscious. The house was also said to have had a strong smell of unidentified chemicals.
The woman was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Reports cite alleged debt-related distress
According to local reports, the teacher had allegedly been distressed after one of the people she owed money threatened to expose her publicly.
Police have not publicly confirmed that this was the cause of her death, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

The management of Shitima Secondary School confirmed the teacher’s death and described her as a jovial and hardworking member of staff.
