EFCC Re-Arraigns Ex-Skye Bank Chairman Tunde Ayeni Over Alleged N15.6bn Fraud

N15.6bn fraud case: EFCC re-arraigns former Skye Bank Chairman, Ayeni

Former Chairman of the Board of Directors of defunct Skye Bank Plc, Tunde Ayeni, has been re-arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N15.6 billion fraud case after prosecutors filed amended charges and additional evidence before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.

The proceedings took place on Monday before Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie at the FCT High Court in Apo. According to the EFCC, the amended filing expanded the case from 17 counts to 18 counts and includes allegations bordering on criminal breach of trust, misappropriation and diversion of funds.

Prosecution counsel, Abba Mohammed (SAN), informed the court that the amended charge and supplementary proof of evidence were submitted on June 22, 2026. Defence counsel, Abdul Mohammed (SAN), confirmed receipt of the updated filings on behalf of the defendant.

Among the allegations presented in court, the EFCC claimed that Ayeni, during his tenure as chairman of the defunct Skye Bank Plc, authorised transfers from the bank’s suspense account, including N510 million allegedly moved to Capital Field Investment Group Limited and another N600 million allegedly transferred to Harigold Ventures Limited in September 2014. The anti-graft agency argued that the transactions violated the bank’s operational procedures and formed part of the criminal breach of trust allegations.

Ayeni pleaded not guilty after the amended charges were read in court.

The case traces back to May 4, 2026, when the former bank chairman was initially arraigned on a 17-count charge before prosecutors later revised the case and submitted additional supporting materials.

Justice Onwuegbuzie subsequently adjourned proceedings until July 6, 2026, when trial is expected to commence. The next stage of the case will determine whether the prosecution can substantiate the allegations presented before the court.
