Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) concluded their 52nd summit with a joint statement reaffirming support for Ukraine, endorsing diplomatic efforts involving Iran, and calling for renewed stability across several global flashpoints.
At the close of the meeting in France on Wednesday, the bloc reiterated support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, pledging continued assistance as the war with Russia continues.
According to the summit communiqué, G7 leaders agreed to strengthen military support measures for Ukraine, including expanded air defence capabilities, additional interceptor systems and increased long-range capacity. The group also signalled plans to support Ukraine’s energy sector and facilitate conditions aimed at increasing domestic military production.
The leaders said they would continue efforts to increase pressure on Russia’s war economy while maintaining backing for Kyiv’s defence objectives.
On developments in the Middle East, the G7 welcomed reports of an agreement involving the United States and Iran and described the development as an opportunity to limit nuclear risks and address broader regional concerns. The statement credited diplomatic engagement led by the United States and participating mediators.
The bloc reiterated its position that Iran should not obtain nuclear weapons and called for continued negotiations beyond the current framework to address regional security concerns and ballistic-related issues.
Addressing maritime security, G7 leaders stressed that unrestricted transit remains central to global trade and expressed support for ongoing defensive initiatives intended to improve stability in the Strait of Hormuz.
The summit also focused on regional conflicts beyond Iran. Leaders called for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and expressed support for efforts by Lebanese authorities to strengthen national sovereignty and address armed group activity.
On Gaza and the West Bank, the group advocated increased humanitarian support, reconstruction efforts and implementation of political and security measures aimed at reducing tensions.
Turning to Asia, the G7 opposed unilateral moves that could alter conditions in the East and South China Seas and across the Taiwan Strait, urging disputes to be managed through dialogue and peaceful engagement.
The leaders additionally reaffirmed support for the complete denuclearization of North Korea and pledged cooperation against what they described as cyber threats and cryptocurrency-related criminal activities linked to Pyongyang.
The summit brought together leaders of the G7 member countries alongside invited heads of government and senior international officials for discussions on security, diplomacy and global economic cooperation.
