Former Kebbi State All Progressives Congress (APC) official, Alhaji Muhammadu Besse, has died while in captivity after being abducted earlier in June, according to reports emerging on Tuesday.
The development was made public by journalist Bakatsine, who reports on insecurity and conflict across Nigeria’s North-West region. According to the update shared on X, Besse’s death was confirmed weeks after disturbing footage surfaced online showing him and another abducted individual inside a forest location believed to be in Birnin Gwari.
The late politician served as immediate past APC chairman in Koko/Besse Local Government Area of Kebbi State. His abduction had generated concern locally after videos circulated showing him and his associate being subjected to humiliation while held by armed men.
Bakatsine stated that both individuals seen in the videos have now died without returning to their families.
“What began as disturbing footage of humiliation has ended in the worst possible tragedy,” the journalist wrote while expressing condolences to the affected families.
