Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that Abuja will undergo a major transformation before the end of President Bola Tinubu’s first term, insisting that infrastructure projects across the capital will continue despite growing political attention on the 2027 elections.
Wike made the remarks on Tuesday during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of the Southern Parkway service carriageways in Gaduwa District, Abuja. The project launch formed part of the FCT Administration’s ongoing infrastructure programme aimed at expanding connectivity and supporting urban growth.
Addressing concerns that project execution could slow as election activities intensify, the minister dismissed the idea and said development efforts would remain on schedule. According to him, the administration’s focus is to sustain momentum and deliver visible changes across the capital before the current presidential tenure ends.
“By the time Mr President finishes his first tenure on May 29, 2027, before he is sworn in for a second tenure, the landscape of Abuja would have entirely changed,” Wike said during the ceremony.
The minister also disclosed that he directly engaged the management of CGC Nigeria Limited over project timelines and received assurances that the contractor would accelerate delivery if funding commitments are met. Wike, in turn, pledged that the administration would continue meeting its financial obligations to avoid delays.
He expressed confidence that the Southern Parkway service carriageways would be completed and commissioned before the January 2027 election period, describing the project as a strategic intervention for easing movement and unlocking growth within Abuja’s southern corridor.
Beyond construction, Wike issued a renewed warning against illegal land development and encroachment. He accused some developers of using forged documents to occupy government land and directed relevant departments to identify and remove structures built without valid allocation.
Officials say the Southern Parkway expansion is expected to reduce traffic pressure, improve access across developing districts and support continued residential and commercial expansion in the Federal Capital Territory.
