Nollywood actress Tope Osoba has passed away at the age of 40 following a prolonged battle with breast cancer.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed on Wednesday by fellow actress Foluke Daramola, who announced Osoba’s passing in an emotional post on her Instagram page.
“She’s gone. Tope is gone, my baby is gone. Ha ha ha, iku doro o,” Daramola wrote.
Public Appeal for Medical Support
In November 2024, Osoba publicly appealed for financial assistance after undergoing her first breast cancer surgery.
At the time, Daramola had shared the actress’s situation on social media, revealing that while the initial operation was successful, doctors recommended a second surgery to remove the remaining cancerous cells from her breast.
The procedure was estimated to cost approximately ₦12 million.
Osoba expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed toward her treatment and appealed for further support to enable her undergo the life-saving operation.
Daramola also shared a video showing Osoba undergoing medical examinations and disclosed that the actress had reached out to Bolaji Amusan, President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), for assistance.
How She Discovered the Illness
In an interview with BBC News Yoruba, Osoba recounted how she discovered a lump in her breast during a routine self-examination.
She explained that her doctor initially dismissed the lump, attributing it to changes associated with childbearing.
However, her persistence prompted further medical investigations, which eventually confirmed that the lump was cancerous.
Describing the moment she received the diagnosis, Osoba said it was “one of the worst days of my life.”
A Career Remembered
Tope Osoba began her entertainment career as a professional dancer before transitioning into acting in the early 2000s.
Over the years, she featured in several Nollywood productions, earning recognition for her performances in films such as Gucci Girls (2012), Accident (2013), and Ifedolapo (2015).
