Announcing the release of the results in Lagos on Wednesday, the Head of WAEC’s National Office, Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, said the figure represents a 1.11 per cent decline from the 9.7 per cent recorded in 2025.
Despite the improvement, Dr. Dangut expressed concern over the continued use of mobile phones in examination halls and organised cheating in some schools.
“The increasing use of cell phones in the examination hall, in spite of the existing ban, and organized cheating in some schools, are other nagging issues,” he said.
He warned that the Council would continue to sanction schools, supervisors, teachers and candidates found guilty of examination malpractice.
“The Council will continue to sanction all cases of examination malpractice, as schools, supervisors, teachers and candidates perpetrating this evil are not helping the educational system.”
Dr. Dangut also disclosed that several supervisors and invigilators caught aiding examination malpractice had been apprehended and would face disciplinary action through their respective State Ministries of Education.
Candidates whose results have been withheld were advised to submit appeals through WAEC’s official complaints portal.
