Professor Obamuyi, a scholar in the field of Banking and Finance, emerged as the lead candidate among 15 applicants interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board. He succeeds the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige.
The appointment was formalized based on the recommendations of the Governing Council, chaired by Dr. Tunji Abayomi, in accordance with the institution’s establishing Act.
“Obamuyi will bring to the office decades of academic excellence, administrative experience, and a strong record of research and institutional development,” a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, noted.
Obamuyi enters the role with extensive administrative credentials. He previously served as the Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and was the inaugural substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). His academic profile is global, including international recognition such as the “Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa” award in 2015 and service on Namibia’s National Council for Higher Education review panels.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that Obamuyi’s leadership will help consolidate the university’s recent achievements.
