Notorious bandit leader Bello Turji has said his group is willing to engage in negotiations with the Nigerian government but warned that it remains prepared for continued armed confrontation.
The remarks were made in a video dated June 20, 2026, and circulated online, where Turji addressed recent security developments and commented on the possibility of peace talks with authorities.
In the recording, Turji claimed responsibility for recent attacks targeting security operatives in parts of Sokoto and Zamfara states. Those claims had not been independently verified in the source material.
Addressing the issue of dialogue, he suggested that his group would respond depending on the government’s approach.
“If the government is ready for negotiation, we are also ready for negotiation. But if they want to continue with force, we are prepared. Our fighters are ready for whatever comes,” he said.
Turji also stated that while his group was open to peace efforts, it would continue to resist military action.
The video surfaced days after reports of an attack along the Isa–Bargaja corridor in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to local and security sources cited in the report, suspected fighters linked to Turji allegedly ambushed security personnel responding to a distress call.
The report further alleged that an Improvised Explosive Device detonated during the operation, resulting in the deaths of at least four soldiers. However, military authorities had not officially confirmed the casualty figure at the time of reporting.
