Six Including NYSC Members Die in Adamawa Road Crash

Six people, including members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), have been confirmed dead after a fatal road accident along the Narehi area of Girei–Song Local Government Road in Adamawa State.

The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday and involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi towards Yola and a commercial Hummer bus heading from Yola to Mubi.

According to a statement from the Adamawa State Police Command spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, the crash resulted in a head-on collision that caused the commercial bus to overturn and burst into flames.

Victims Burnt Beyond Recognition

Preliminary findings revealed that all five passengers in the Hummer bus were burnt to death after the vehicle caught fire immediately after the impact.

Authorities confirmed that four of the victims were serving corps members deployed to Adamawa State under the NYSC scheme.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Suleiman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both indigenes of Kaduna State. The identities of the remaining victims are still being confirmed.

A military personnel attached to the gun truck also lost his life in the crash.

Emergency Response and Investigation

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Specialist Hospital in Yola as efforts continue to identify the remaining bodies and contact their families.

The police said investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident and prevent future occurrences along the busy highway.

The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State has expressed condolences to the families of the victims, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the National Youth Service Corps, describing the incident as deeply tragic and unfortunate.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution on the road, especially on highways known for heavy traffic and long-distance travel.
