Security forces have reportedly recovered an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) loaded with motorcycles following a counter-ambush operation against suspected bandits in Zamfara State.
The development was disclosed on Thursday by journalist Bakatsine in a post on X, where he claimed the operation resulted in the deaths of more than 100 suspected terrorists.
APC reportedly recovered in Gummi
According to Bakatsine, the recovered APC was brought into Gummi town after the operation.
He claimed the vehicle was being used by the armed group to transport motorcycles.
A video shared alongside the post showed the armoured vehicle arriving in Gummi with several motorcycles loaded inside.
Report claims over 100 suspected terrorists were killed
Bakatsine alleged that security personnel carried out the counter-ambush operation against suspected bandits, resulting in the elimination of more than 100 members of the armed group.
However, security agencies have not officially confirmed the reported casualty figure or released details of the operation at the time of filing this report.
Operation follows reported rescue of abducted INEC official
The reported operation comes a day after security forces were said to have rescued an abducted official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during separate operations in Zamfara State.
According to Bakatsine, heavily armed bandits riding about 50 motorcycles attacked communities in Talata Mafara, rustled hundreds of cattle and abducted an INEC official, Aliyu Mohammed, after he had transported NECO examination materials to Sokoto.
His Toyota Hilux vehicle and the examination materials were reportedly recovered intact.
Police operatives attached to the Victim and Crime Response Unit (VCRU), working alongside the military, were also said to have tracked the suspects to Gando Forest, where they rescued the abducted INEC official and another victim unharmed while recovering hundreds of stolen cattle….See More
