The Kogi State Government says it has adopted the use of technology to block leakages in revenue collection across the state.
The Executive Chairman, Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, (KGIRS), Salihu Sule Enehe, made the disclosure at the official flag-off ceremony of Kogi State Infrastructure Maintenance Levy Collection on Monday in Lokoja.
Enehe noted that the rate of leakages in the revenue generation process across the state is unimaginable and a major challenge to the Service,.
He, however, said with the technology driven process now employed by the Service, it will no longer be manually driven.
“The process will improve the revenue generation of the State and ease of collection. The new technology will take care of all the challenges in revenue collection,” he stated.
In his address, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo described Infrastructure Maintenance Levy as a principal item in the state government’s revenue collection profile, backed by the law.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Folashade Ayoade Arike, the governor noted that while neighboring states such kwara, Edo, Osun and Anambra were making huge success with the Infrastructure Maintenance Levy, Kogi State had not been able to get it right since 2017 when it established the Internally Generating Revenue Service.
According to him, the flag-off of the project marked the commencement of the collection of Infrastructure Maintenance Levy across the state, using technology.
Ododo said the success of the Infrastructure Maintenance Levy would enable his administration to enhance revenue and deliver good governance to the citizens.
He, therefore, directed all officials of the transport unions, their members and other stakeholders to cooperate fully with the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service in the implementation Infrastructure Maintenance Levy.

Doyin Okupe
Doyin Okupe, a former Director-General of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council, has hailed President Bola Tinubu on his re-election as chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Recall that Tinubu was re-elected at the 65th Ordinary Session of the bloc in Abuja on Sunday.
Speaking on the development via a congratulatory message on Monday, Okupe said, “I congratulate President Bola Tinubu on his re-election as the leader of ECOWAS.
“It is difficult for me to understand why it is the destiny of President Tinubu to come into position of leadership, both at national and regional levels, at periods of hardship and difficulty.
“But I pray for divine guidance and wisdom to navigate these turbulent waters.”
According to him, in this new tenure, Tinubu’s main agenda should be to bring back the leadership of the Sahel Nations of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger to the ECOWAS.
He also urged the president to reconcile with Nigeria’s immediate neighbours, the Republic of Niger.
Okupe advised Tinubu to lean on the support of former President Muhammadu Buhari and other influential Northern leaders with strong ties with Republic of Niger.
“The Africa Union as a body can be made to officially spearhead this reconcilatory agenda while a diplomatic outreach to Russia for this purpose, especially if handled at the level of the AU, will certainly be helpful,” he noted.

No fewer than 20 people have been killed and more than 50 injured in waves of Russian missile attacks across Ukraine, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said on Monday.
Kiev was among the cities worst impacted with seven dead and at least nine injured, the city administration said.
Kryvyi Rih in southern Ukraine was also badly hit and at least 10 people there were killed and more than 30 injured.
In Kiev, a large children’s hospital was also hit, President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
He said it was not yet clear how many people there had been killed.
He published a short video showing destroyed hospital rooms and traces of blood on the floor.
Zelensky spoke of people being buried.
“Everyone is helping to clear the rubble, doctors and other people,’’ he wrote.
Residents in Kiev’s centre heard two dozen explosions, presumably the result of anti-aircraft missiles.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said debris fell in four of the city’s neighborhoods.
The Russian army fired cruise missiles and several Kinzhal hypersonic missiles at targets in the city that is home to three million people, the Ukrainian Air Force said earlier.
Damage was also reported in Dnipro.
Other targets included the frontline cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk.
The Russian military used more than 40 missiles in the attack, Zelensky said.
It was unusual that the heavy attack took place during the day at the beginning of the working week.
The embattled nation already saw airstrikes by drones, cruise missiles and missiles during the night.
Ukraine has been trying to repel a full-scale Russian invasion since February 2022 and depended largely on Western support.
Kiev repeatedly urged its allies to provide even more modern air defence systems.

The Nigerian Government on Monday unveiled measures to overcome the high prices of food in Nigeria within the next 180 days.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari said a 150-Day Duty-Free Import Window for food commodities would be implemented by the Federal Government.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Kyari said: “150-Day Duty-Free Import Window for Food Commodities, suspension of duties, tariffs and taxes for the importation of certain food commodities (through land and sea borders).
“These commodities include Maize, Husked Brown Rice, Wheat and Cowpeas. Under this arrangement, imported food commodities will be subjected to a Recommended Retail Price (RRP). (I am aware that some good citizens might be concerned about the quality of the would-be imported food commodities as it relates to the trending worries around the genetic composition of food.)
“I am glad to reiterate that the Government’s position exemplifies standards that would not compromise the safety of the various food items for consumption.
“In addition to the importation by private sector, Federal Government will import 250,000MT of Wheat and 250,000MT of Maize. The imported food commodities in their semi processed state will target supplies to the small-scale processors and millers across the country.”
He listed other measures to be implemented by the government to include:
“Engage relevant stakeholders to set a Guaranteed Minimum Price (GMP) and mop up surplus assorted food commodities to restock the National Strategic Food Reserve.
“Continuous ramp-up production for the 2024/2025 farming cycle. sustained support to smallholder farmers in the ongoing wet season farming through existing government initiatives, strengthen and accelerate Dry Season Farming across the country. Embark on aggressive agricultural mechanization and development to reduce drudgery, drive
down the cost of production and boost productivity, collaborate with Sub-National to identify irrigable lands and increase land under cultivation, work closely with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, to rehabilitate and maintain irrigation facilities under river basin authorities across the federation.
“Development of a strategic engagement for youth and women across the Federation for immediate greenhouse cultivation of horticultural crops such as tomatoes and pepper to increase production volume, stabilize prices, and address food shortages.
“Fast-tracking ongoing engagements with the Nigerian Military to rapidly cultivate arable lands under the Defence Farms Scheme, while encouraging other Para-Military establishments to put secured available arable lands to cultivation.”
He said the Renewed Hope National Livestock Transformation Implementation Committee will be inaugurated on Tuesday, 9th July 2024 with a view to developing and implementing policies that prioritize livestock development and ensure alignment with the National Livestock Transformation Plan.
The government also plans to enhance Nutrition Security through the promotion of production of fortified food commodities and offer necessary support to scale up the Home Garden Initiative by the Office of The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Abubakar noted that over the next 14 days, the Nigerian Government in close collaboration with the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit (PFSCU) and the Economic Management Team (EMT), will convene with the respective Agencies to finalize the implementation frameworks.
“We will ensure that information is publicly available to facilitate the participation of all relevant stakeholders across the country,” he said.
He said the PFSCU will manage a dashboard for the President, providing him with direct visibility into these interventions and ensuring accountability.
